SONG TAPPING

Location:  INDOOR
Minutes:  5-15
Formation  NONE
Activity Level LOW
Age levels ANY
People 6-60
Supplies NONE

Instructions:  Divide your participants into small groups of 3-10 players and sit around a table.  Give each group a familiar song title.  Each group gets a different song.  Allow time for each group to practice clapping, tapping, or stamping out their song they are NOT singing any words.  Allow them 1-2 minutes at the most.  One group begins and performs their song for the rest of the group by tapping out the song on their table.  When any other group recognizes the tune, they join in by singing the song to its completion.  Next group takes their turn and so on until each group has performed their tune.

Leader's Hints:  This is a great activity to use around a table, but can be easily adapted to any situation without tables.  Just a circle of chairs or seated on the floor works well.  The group can either clap or stamp out their song instead of tapping on a table.  We have found that telling the whole group what category the songs are in helps folks to recognize the tunes.  Listed below are some ideas for categories.

Christmas carols Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
Children's songs Mary Had a Little Lamb, She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain,  Three Blind Mice, Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Hymns Joy to the World, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Jesus Loves Me, Morning Has Broken
