INDIANAPOLIS SPEEDWAY

Location: Indoors
Minutes 5-10
Formation Circles
Activity level MEDIUM
Age levels Any
People 8-200
Supplies NONE, although a checkered flag to finish and start for the leader is a good touch

Form a circle in chairs.  There should be at least two circles, and probably no more than 3 circles.

The leader should say:

“Once upon a time, there was in the distant city of Indianapolis, a group of car buffs who wanted to have a race, so they had a race.  And their cars being very old, went ‘kachunk, kachunk, bang bang.’  We are going to reenact that race right now.  The starter has to say, ‘kachunk, kachunk, bang bang’ while looking at the person on his or her right.  Then that person has to say, ‘kachunk, kachunk, bang bang.’   And on and on around the circle for THREE laps, as fast as you can.  Don’t kachunk until the person on your left has finished kachunking.  On your mark, get set, go.”

On the next round:  “The years have gone by, and the 1970s came with the gas shortages.  And cars went, “thsppppplllltttt (raspberry sound).  Same rules as before, three laps, but instead of kachunking, do the raspberry. On your mark, get set, go.”

On the next round:  “Now it is the 21st century, and the cars go zoom.  Three laps!  On your mark, get set, go.”

Final round:  “In the future, cars won’t need gas and they will go at lightning speed.  They don’t kaplunk, thspppllttt, or zoom.  They pssst.  On your mark, get set go.”
